Loscil (1998, Canada)
Equivalents, 2019
Interestingly, someone associated “Too Little Too Much” – the visual part, not the soundtrack – to Loscil’s Equivalents. One critic described the latter as “remarkably monochromatic music”, so maybe there is something to it. Personally I am unable to switch the soundtracks, as mine has very direct and indexical connection to the painting, there is a conceptual link that is much stronger than it can ever be to Lucil’s composition. But I can also see/hear formal similarities between the two, which is quite interesting.
And I do like Loscil’s sound even if it may be a little bit “too polished” to be compared to my own compositions. On the other hand, I do feel tempted to polish mine more on occasion, so here Loscil can be an interesting example to look up to.
