Fabian Marcaccio (b. 1963, Argentina)
Confine Paintant, 2003

So much to like and be inspired by here! We can start with the notion of “paintant” that aims to emphasise painting as action, and seems to resonate with the notion of actant. I am totally interested in making works that can do something in the world, not only be passive objects to be viewed or stored somewhere.

Then Marcaccio’s bold choices to install paintings in odd settings – sticking out from the gallery window, tracing a coastline etc. This tickling of the idea of separation between art and everyday is very appealing, it is interesting to see how works can blend in or interact with other environments than safety of the white cube. The scale is quite impressive, too. Marcaccio is stress-testing many conventions of the artworld that I am also trying to do.
