Light Switch, 1992-9
A light switch on the wall… as a light projection.
Simple, beautiful and quirky. And inspiring – I have put several works inspired by this piece on my list of “art to make”.
Yet it ties into some overarching themes I’ve been exploring, including witty subversion or misrepresentation, blurring or debasement of identity, triggering of sensemaking in front of the uncanny… “Artist’s Touch” series of photographs depicting traces of dirty fingers on various switches and handles at MFA studios comes to my mind as a most directly related piece.
