Thomas Moor (b. 1988, Switzerland)
Touching Tangibles, 2013-2014
Moor touches other artist’s works that in museum setting are normally not allowed to be touched. The white all-covering dress complicates the gesture further – is it a reference to a white cube, to some de-individualised impersonation of the artworld as the only permitted toucher of the artworks – wearing white gloves, of course? And still, Moor’s touch is not just handling, it’s fondling…
The title is also witty… Moor does a kind of “immaterial” piece – a performance – where he fondles “material” pieces… a love affair between the conceptual and the material – when there are so many forced attempts to keep them completely apart – brilliant!
This goes to my box of unconventional interactions with other artists’ works generative of new meanings, exploration of overlooked affordances in art encounters, challenging of the norms.
