Takis (b. 1925, Greece)
Signals, 1955-
I am making this entry not on the basis of the formal qualities of the work, but rather the artist’s comment as to its meaning, building a library of explicit statements where extraction of meaning from the work is delegated to the audience.
“The sculptures are various elements, whose form and shape evoke primordial symbols. In response to their interpretation, Takis said: «I am responsible only for manufacturing the symbols. Their meaning depends for interpretation on each and every one of us.»” (Weibel 2019, 421).
