Dieter Schnebel (b. 1930, Germany – d. 2018, Germany)
ki – no, 1963/1967, 2012
“With compositions like Ki-No, visible music and anschläge – ausschläge he created a new open concept of work which left boundaries in space and time behind and saw the composer as creative trigger, not as completer of the work” (Schott, https://en.schott-music.com/dieter-schnebel-obituary/)
“ki – no is predominantly visual music. Slides are projected onscreen in specific rhythms.” (ZKM, http://soundart.zkm.de/en/ki-no-nachtmusik-fur-projektoren-und-horer-19631967-2012-dieter-schnebel/)
Schnebel’s view of the role of composer reflects my view of the role of the artist. I also appreciate his “visual music” based on rhythmical projections – something that I am also looking into.
