Henri Pousseur (b. 1929, Belgium – d. 2009, Belgium)
Scambi, 1957

An electronic music composition whose underlying logic and intentions have many parallels with my endeavours.

First of all, Pousseur’s strive to provide the listener with means to actively shape their own artistic experience by offering a modular structure where elements could be played in any order.

Secondly, intention to bypass traditional musical structures and conventions, expanding the creative field of the possible.

Finally, a very analytical approach to how desired sounds would be extracted from the white noice.

The more I delve into the history of sound art, the more overwhelmed I become by all the conceptual precedents to most of my explorations in art regardless of the medium or genre. Maybe I will not need to write a whole new art theory from scratch to support my practice, maybe I will be able to assemble a sufficiently fitting platform from the sound art field and roll with it through any fields that interest me?!..
