Hans-Peter Feldmann (b. 1941, Germany)
11 Horizons, 2015

Feldmann purchased 11 landscape paintings by different artists and hanged them side by side following the horizon line in each.

While this peculiar merger of times and places has interesting qualities of its own, I am mainly excited about the re-interpretation of an existing artwork. Re-interpretation that does not care too much about “what the artist wanted to say” but rather “what this particular artwork is saying to me and how I can make sense of it”. Using other artworks as art materials is also an interesting method that could be viewed through a curatorial lens, but also call into question the difference between art material and artwork…

I am playing with these themes and thoughts in my “Colaborations” series and some other works.
