Yet again a case where I am more appreciative of the method (curation) than the presumable subject matter (institutional critique). Lately I have been increasingly recognising elements of curation in my practice, but also thinking of any artistic practice as a form of curation – which ideas, which objects, which experiences are worthwhile to highlight and point out as art; how to combine and present them.
Department of Eagles is a very inspiring predecessor. And while I am not too critical of museum institution as such, I am always interested to unsettle the grounds for conventional things – not out of preconceived prejudice against the convention, but out of curiosity what that might reveal. Thus idea of assemblages united by unconventional logic – just as testing unconventional sites and contexts for museum-like operations – is most appealing to me.
